A
collection of songs recorded for local independent Dypro Records,
1997's Pure and Golden Love Songs Volume 2 is a collection of love
songs, mellow and smooth, and Nonoy Zuniga's vocal style fits the mood
well. Of the album's 14 songs, eight are remakes of American tunes.
The opening "We Are Friends," a Philippine composition, sets the tone
of the album immediately. The song is mellow and smooth, and Nonoy
Zuniga's velvety voice fits the song like a glove. Nonoy Zuniga
possesses a suave voice and has depth. One of the album's best songs
is the beautiful and emotive "You'll Never Walk Alone," composed by
Rodgers Hammerstein. Nonoy Zuniga imparts much depth and emotion, and
delivers a satisfying, heartfelt performance. He also performs a
soaring remake of "Tonight," composed by Stephen Sondheim and Leonard
Bernstein for West Side Story. He handles with finesse one of the
album's more spirited numbers, the theatrical "You Don't Have to See
Me," composed by Vehnee Saturno. The songs are enjoyable for those who
want to listen to a never ending array of love songs, but can get
weary for a listener who craves more diversity and more adventurism.
Nonetheless, the album ends on a strong note, a fine rendition of
Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World."
